Driver Functions – Operation Instructions

Microstep Resolution Setting
Set the driver microstep resolution using DIP switches SW5–SW8.
There are 16 levels of microstepping available.
Before setting the microstep resolution, stop the driver from running.

Output Current Setting
Set the driver output current using DIP switches SW1–SW3.
There are 8 levels of output current available.
For specific current settings, refer to the driver panel diagram.

Automatic Half-Current Function
Users can use SW4 to set the driver’s automatic half-current function.
OFF: Static current is set to half of the dynamic current.
ON: Static current is the same as the dynamic current.

For general applications, it is recommended to set SW4 to OFF to reduce heating of the motor and driver and improve reliability.
After the pulse signal stops for about 0.4 seconds, the current automatically reduces to about half (approximately 60% of the actual value).

Theoretically, heat generation is reduced to 36%.

Signal Interface
PUL+ / PUL-: Pulse signal positive and negative terminals
DIR+ / DIR-: Direction signal positive and negative terminals
ENA+ / ENA-: Enable signal positive and negative terminals

Motor Interface
A+ / A-: Stepper motor phase A winding positive and negative terminals
B+ / B-: Stepper motor phase B winding positive and negative terminals
Swapping phase A and B connections will reverse the motor direction.

Power Interface

Powered by DC power supply.
Recommended working voltage range:
DM556: 20–48VDC

Power supply should be greater than 80W.
Indicator Lights
The driver has two indicator lights: red and green.
The green light is the power indicator and stays on when powered.
The red light is the fault indicator. It lights up when overvoltage or overcurrent faults occur.
After clearing the fault, the red light turns off.
